We are inviting you to participate as an employer representative in the Exploring Work Transition Fair sponsored by the HSC Foundation, Montgomery County  Public Schools, DC Metro Business Leadership Network, SchoolTalk DC and TransCen, Inc.  We are excited to provide a unique, in-depth and hands-on introduction to employment for students with disabilities from the Maryland who are considering career and academic plans beyond their secondary experience.  This is an overview of activities on the day of the event:

9:30 -10:00                       Arrival & Employer Orientation

10:00 – 10:30                    Welcome

10:30 – 11:30                    Employer Activities with Students

11:30 – 12:30                    Lunch and First Job Dialogue

12:30 – 1:30                       Exhibitor and Employer Fair

1:30 – 2:00                         Closing and Departure

Employer Activities with Students:  Employers will facilitate a series of interactive activities with a group of seven to ten students related to the industry expertise of the employer and the ‘soft skills’ necessary to succeed as an employee.  For example, an employer in the hospitality field may work with students to do a role-play about customer service skills.  We have created the activities and will provide you with all descriptions and instructions to facilitate the activity.  Our team will also be available to assist with facilitating at the event.  All necessary supplies for activities will be provided.

Lunch and First Job Discussion:  Employers, students, teachers and event organizers will engage in a dialogue about first job experiences, discuss lessons learned, and share our perspectives about first days on the job!

Exhibitor and Employer Fair:  Students will have the opportunity to visit exhibit tables, gather information, and talk with exhibitors and employers about potential employment and services that will assist students in successfully obtaining their first job.  This can include information about postsecondary education programs that are related to careers of interest or information on transportation options to maximize independence.

We hope to provide students with an in-depth introduction to various industries, transition services, and skills needed to enter into their first employment experience.  We greatly appreciate your participation in this event, and look forward to working with you!  Please confirm the name and title of the representative(s) from your organization who will participate in this event: Katherine McCary Katherine.McCary@ConsultC5.com or Sue Werber Sue.Werber@ConsultC5.com.  Thank you for your support.
